The oldest evidence of artifacts in Philippines has been the presence of old Indian artifacts which leads us to believe there were Indian influences from the beginning. Several tribes were present there before we came to the Spanish expeditions and conquests. From 1565 to 1898, they were controlled by the Spanish. The British ruled for two years from 1762 to 1764 but the rule returned to the Spanish who invested in education and infrastructure. By 1872, a revolution had come into the works and finally began in 1898 but it was then the Americans came to rule. War broke out and Philippines managed to become its own country by 1901. It became a commonwealth in the early thirties and then went through World War II but it persisted and went on through some political turmoil to become the Philippines that it is now. The official languages are Filipino and English with Spanish and Arabic being optional languages.
